The ambition was to make the European market a zone of trust for AI, by establishing a robust regulatory framework to inspire trust among citizens and encourage companies to develop, deploy and market their AI solutions in Europe.

2/ The importance of ethical AI in today’s world

We are seeing that artificial intelligence is playing an increasing role in our daily lives and our economies. However, its development raises major concerns in terms of fairness, security and social impact. Ethical AI helps prevent abuse, protect individuals and ensure the responsible and benevolent use of new technologies.

Regulatory Framework for AI in Europe

1/ Overview of the European AI regulation (AI Act)

We are relying on the AI Act, which came into force in August 2024 and aims to establish an environment conducive to the development of trusted AI in Europe. This approach is based on compliance with established rules and the implementation of standards guaranteeing the responsible use of AI. The AI Act classifies AI systems according to their level of risk and imposes obligations tailored to different uses.

2/ Harmonized standards and AI compliance

To guarantee this compliance, Europe has opted for an AI standardization approach, similar to that applied to regulated products. The standards, in particular ISO 42001, and the work of CEN CENELEC on harmonized standards constitute the operational translation of regulatory obligations. Thus they ensure the quality and reliability of AI, and serve as a reference to guarantee effective compliance.

The pillars of ethics in artificial intelligence

1/ Transparency and explainability

A responsible AI should not be a black box. It must be understandable and explainable so that users and regulators can understand and justify its decisions. Transparency builds trust and avoids errors or unintentional manipulation.

2/ Non-discrimination et fairness

Ethical AI guarantees fair treatment of users by avoiding algorithmic biases that may discriminate against certain groups. Establishing methodologies to identify and correct these biases is essential to ensure AI equity.

3/ Data confidentiality and protection

Data protection is a key aspect of responsible AI. We must ensure the confidentiality of the information used in AI systems and ensure compliance with regulations such as the GDPR, in order to protect the rights of individuals.

The protection of intellectual property, human control and social and environmental well-being are also among the pillars of ethical AI.

Pratical implementation of Responsible AI

1/ Integration of ethics from the design stage

Responsible AI must be considered from the design stage. It is essential to integrate ethical principles at each stage of the development cycle, with audit and validation processes that guarantee AI that is compliant and aligned with societal needs.

2/ Tools and methodologies for transparent AI

The application of tools enabling audit, traceability and explainability is crucial. Verifying the robustness of the models will also be key. The implementation of appropriate methodologies promotes AI aligned with the needs, values and fundamental rights of users.

Challenges and future prospects

Current obstacles to the adoption of responsible AI

Despite regulatory and technological advances, we face several challenges:

Lack of training and awareness of the issues involved in responsible AI.

Lack of harmonized global AI standards, which limits the universal application of European principles.

Difficulty in measuring and guaranteeing a positive social impact.

The future of responsible AI in Europe and around the world

We recognize that Europe plays a key role in the promotion of responsible AI. The evolution of regulatory frameworks and the progressive adoption of global standards will ensure AI that is secure, transparent and aligned with fundamental rights.

Conclusion

Responsible AI is based on three pillars: regulation, standardization and ethics. To establish trustworthy AI, we must ensure that it is aligned with societal values, guarantee its transparency and ensure human oversight.

Act now! Join the conversation on responsible AI and find out how your organization can contribute to more transparent and ethical artificial intelligence. Contact us to find out more.

Introduction to Responsible AI 1/ Definition of Responsible AI We define responsible AI as a framework for the development and use of artificial intelligence that ensures AI transparency, AI security and… Lire la suite

[46

post-835","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ai-governance-blog
["GET
