We define responsible AI as a framework for the development and use of artificial intelligence that ensures AI transparency<\/strong>, AI security and respect for fundamental rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is based on three essential pillars: regulation of AI, standardization of AI and ethical AI.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Its objective is to guarantee an AI that benefits society as a whole by minimizing risks and maximizing positive impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The concept of trusted AI<\/strong> appeared at the beginning of the AI Act<\/strong>, launched in April 2021 by the European Commission<\/strong>. The ambition was to make the European market a zone of trust for AI<\/strong>, by establishing a robust regulatory framework to inspire trust among citizens<\/strong> and encourage companies to develop, deploy and market<\/strong> their AI solutions in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We are seeing that artificial intelligence is playing an increasing role in our daily lives and our economies. However, its development raises major concerns in terms of\u00a0fairness,\u00a0security\u00a0and\u00a0social impact.<\/strong>\u00a0Ethical AI<\/a>\u00a0helps prevent abuse, protect individuals and ensure the responsible and benevolent use of new technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We are relying on the\u00a0AI Act,<\/a>\u00a0which came into force in August 2024 and aims to establish an environment conducive to the development of\u00a0trusted AI<\/strong>\u00a0in Europe. This approach is based on\u00a0compliance with established rules<\/strong>\u00a0and the implementation of\u00a0standards<\/strong>\u00a0guaranteeing the responsible use of AI. The\u00a0AI Act<\/strong>\u00a0classifies\u00a0AI systems\u00a0<\/a>according to their level of risk and imposes obligations tailored to different uses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To guarantee this compliance, Europe has opted for an\u00a0AI standardization<\/strong>\u00a0approach, similar to that applied to regulated products. The standards, in particular\u00a0ISO 42001<\/a>, and the work of\u00a0CEN CENELEC<\/strong>\u00a0on harmonized standards constitute the operational translation of regulatory obligations. Thus they ensure the\u00a0quality and reliability<\/strong>\u00a0of AI, and serve as a reference to guarantee\u00a0effective compliance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A\u00a0responsible AI<\/strong>\u00a0should not be a\u00a0black box<\/strong>. It must be\u00a0understandable and explainable<\/strong>\u00a0so that users and regulators can\u00a0understand and justify<\/strong>\u00a0its decisions. Transparency builds trust and avoids errors or unintentional manipulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ethical AI\u00a0<\/strong>guarantees\u00a0fair <\/strong>treatment of users by avoiding\u00a0algorithmic biases<\/strong>\u00a0that may discriminate against certain groups. Establishing methodologies to identify and correct these biases is essential to ensure\u00a0AI equity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Data protection<\/strong>\u00a0is a key aspect of\u00a0responsible AI<\/strong>. It is essential to integrate ethical principles at each stage of the development cycle, with audit and validation processes that guarantee\u00a0AI that is compliant and aligned with societal needs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The application of tools enabling\u00a0audit, traceability and explainability<\/strong>\u00a0is crucial. Verifying the\u00a0robustness<\/strong> of\u00a0the models will also be key.
